ALMA, Mich. - The eighth-ranked Calvin University women's volleyball team put together a dominant performance in a 3-0 sweep at Alma by the scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-10 on Friday night.
The Knights were in control from the jump, hitting .533 on the attack in the opening set on the way to a 25-10 set-one win.
Aerin Baker (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck) led the attack with three kills.
Vanessa Martinez (Hudsonville, Mich./Wyoming) took control in the second set, recording five kills and three blocks as the Knights continued to ride the momentum of the opening set by taking the second set 25-9.
In the third set, the Knights put the match away with the help of four kills from
Emma Ekblaw (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) to finish off the sweep.
Calvin (15-3, 3-1 MIAA) hit .462 on the attack for the match and committed only six total hitting errors in three sets. The Knights also held the Scots to a negative attack efficiency in each of the three sets as Alma (11-9, 1-4 MIAA) finished with a -.074 percentage overall.
Baker and Martinez led the way with 10 kills apiece, with Martinez hitting .714 while Ekblaw finished with nine kills and a .643 attack efficiency.

Jasmine Namminga (Pella, Iowa/Pella Community) each finished with five blocks, and
Alyssa DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) added 21 assists.
Aubrey Wrubel (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) and
Avery Ekkens (Portage, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) led the Knights with nine digs apiece.
COACH'S COMMENT: "We came ready to play with intensity and focus," Calvin head women's volleyball coach Dr.
Amber Warners said. "I thought we served aggressively and passed great so we could utilize our offense from everyone. I thought our setters distributed the ball very well. Credit that partly to the back row passers."
