RESULTS
DETROIT - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team competed against some of its strongest competition of the season on Friday at Wayne State at Matthaei Natatorium.
Wayne State entered the meet ranked 12th in the nation in NCAA Division II and showed its quality by defeating the NCAA Division III 19th-ranked Knights 157-80 in the event.
Some of the top finishers for the Knights on the day included:
*The Knights finished first in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of
Maggie Farrell (Portage, MIch./Portage Central/Denison),
Natalie Fisher (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville),
Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Hannah Brown (Palmyra, Va./Home School) finished in a time of 1:37.56, with Farrell leading off the race with a time of 25.01.
*In the 200 Medley relay, the team of
Isabella Gable (Greenville, Ohio/Arcanum-Butler/Tennesse/Lindenwood),
Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep/Denison), Farrell and
Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central/KVCC) finished second in a time of 1:50.13.
*Thier finished the day with a pair of top-four finishes by taking first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.55) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:16.23).
*Sonday took second in the 50 freestyle (24.72) and third in the 100 freestyle (55.08).
*Farrell finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.93.

Madilyn McNearney (Riverside, Mo./Park Hill South) took second in the 500 freestyle (5:40.59). In the other long distance race,
Megan Pankratz (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) took third in the 1000 freestyle (11:39.81).
*On the diving board,
Kiah Heminghous (Midland, Mich./Midland) finished third in the three-meter competition with 263.03 points, and fifth in the one-meter competition with 211.03 points.

NEXT UP: Calvin swimming and diving will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 21) when it competes in a meet against Alma and Albion at Venema Aquatic Center at 1:00 PM.
