ASHLAND, Oh, - The nationally-ranked Calvin men's swimming and diving team claimed a 152-84 victory over Division II Ashland University Friday night, improving to 4-1 on the dual meet season.
Highlights of the meet for Calvin included:
*The Knights winning both relays. Its 200 medley relay team of senior
Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School), freshman
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Oh./Home School), junior
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and senior
Jacob Heeres (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) won in a time of 1:33.88. Its 200 freestyle relay team of Holstege,
Heeres, Campbell and senior
Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Wisc./Middleton HS) took first in 1:23.79.
*Calvin took the top three spots in the 100 freestyle with Heeres winning in 46.29, sophomore
Vladimir Molin (Rolling Meadows, Il./Rolling Meadows HS) taking second (47.89) and freshman
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Il./Downers Grove North HS) taking third (47.98).
*Freshman
Wilson Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) winning the three-meter diving (236.70) while senior
Jay Cen (Deerfield, Il./Deerfield HS) taking second on the one-meter board (251.63) while Goodpaster took third (248.00).
*Sophomore
Joshua Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) winning the 200 freestyle (1:47.22) and freshman
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS) placing second (1:48.05).
*Calvin sweeping the top three spots in the 50 freestyle with Holstege taking first (21.01), Peterson placing second (21.39) and Campbell taking third (21.79).
*Sophomore
David Bajwa (Potomac, Md./The Heights School) winning the 200 IM (1:59.66).
*Peterson winning the 200 butterfly (1:56.61).
COACHES COMMENT: "Pretty good meet. Pretty good results considering we haven't been in competition for six weeks," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We're just getting back into the swing of things with first semester classes and getting together for a road trip. We've got a big test tomorrow."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Denison University on Saturday for a power-packed triangular. The meet will feature 13
th-ranked Calvin, 9
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon and eighth-ranked Denison. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. (EST).
