Calvin Women's Soccer Runs by Ravens To Remain Unbeaten

ANDERSON, Ind. – The No. 13 Calvin women's soccer team secured a 3-0 win at Anderson University Saturday afternoon to improve to 8-0-0 on the season.

Calvin used a late first half goal from freshman Eli Farrell (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) and added second half insurance tallies from juniors Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon HS) and Maggie Smith (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) to seal the win.
Anderson (3-2-2) sat in a deep block on defense throughout the first half but fell behind with 3:36 left in the first half as Farrell bent in a corner kick from the left wing that sailed over the Anderson keeper and tucked just inside the far post for a 1-0 Calvin lead.

Calvin picked up the tempo in the second half and jumped ahead 2-0 in the 59th minute as junior Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon HS) connected on her third goal of the season off a pass from freshman Lucy Iverson (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS).

Smith provided the clinching goal, scoring in the 74th minute off an assist from junior Kaitlyn Van Laare (Toronto, Ont./Toronto District Christian HS).
Calvin out-shot Anderson 29-2. Sophomore Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie HS) picked up one save and her eighth shutout victory of the season.

COACHES COMMENT: "Happy to pick up a road result today," said Calvin head women's soccer coach Emily Ottenhoff. "I thought Anderson came out with much more focus and edge in the first half. Credit to our group for finding a way to get a goal. We brought a lot more energy in the second half to put the game away."

NEXT UP: Calvin will open its MIAA schedule next Wednesday at Olivet in a league match set to start at 4 p.m.
