Women's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Win

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Calvin women's soccer team continued its early season strong play with a 5-0 win at Manchester on Wednesday.

The Knights jumped in front early and never looked back, as Tatum Goodling (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) scored in the second minute off an assist from Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) to push Calvin in front 1-0.

Calvin would find the back of the net twice more in the first half, as Mueller scored in the 28th minute off an assist from Carley Curry (Dexter, Mich./Dexter), and Karley Michmerhuizen (Grandville, Mich./Unity Christian) added another tally right before the half to push the Knights' lead to 3-0. Anna Reimink (Winona Lake, Ind./Lakeland Christian Academy) assisted on Michmerhuizen's goal.

In the second half, Calvin added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute thanks to an own goal by Manchester, and Bri Wade (Norton Shores, Mich./Mona Shores) capped the scoring in the 89th minute with an unassisted goal.

Five goals was more than enough for the Knights' defense, which allowed just one shot and zero shots on goal as keeper Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) did not need to make a save on the way to her fifth straight shutout to open the season.

The Knights improved to 5-0-0 on the season with the win. Manchester fell to 1-4-0 in defeat.

COACH'S COMMENT: "Happy to get another road result," Calvin women's soccer head coach Emily Ottenhoff said. "It was great to get contributions from a lot of different people today. We have a huge challenge ahead of us in University of Chicago, a program that is consistently one of the best in the country. We'll get back to work tomorrow in preparation."

NEXT UP: Calvin women's soccer returns to action on Saturday, September 17, when it hosts University of Chicago in a game that starts at 4 PM.
