Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - Calvin got back on the winning track with a 15-8 win at Illinois Tech on Wednesday night.
Calvin (6-2) led 6-4 at halftime and outscored the host Cardinals (1-3) by an 8-1 margin in the third quarter to put the game away.
Junior Josh Newhouse (Grand Junction, Co./Palisade HS) led the Calvin attack with four goals and three assists to go with three ground balls.
Newhouse had three of his four goals in Calvin's pivotal third quarter surge.
Senior Chase Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) also had a big game with three goals, three assists and 10 ground balls while winning 19 of 22 faceoff opportunities.
Freshman Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South HS) picked up two goals as did freshman Josh Moyer (Laurys Station, PA / Allentown Central Catholic).
Scoring single goals for the Knights were junior Robert Miner (Littleton, Co./Columbine HS), junior Ethan Curtis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS, freshman Christian Coler (Ionia, NY/Honeyoye Falls-Lima) and senior Drew Stoneburner (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS).
Miner and Coler were credited with seven ground balls apiece.
Goaltending duties were shared between senior Evan Griffin (Howell, Mich./Hartland HS) and freshmen Carter Sherman (Ada, Mich./Lowell HS) and Tristan Windham (Parker, Co./Lutheran HS).
Griffin went the first three quarters and posted four saves. Sherman went 9:15 of the fourth quarter and collected two saves with Windham playing the final 5:45 and posting three saves.
Calvin held a 41-30 shots at goal advantage.
