HOLLAND, MICH- The Calvin women's soccer team continued its season of dominance this afternoon beating rival Hope College in a 1-0 game at Van Andel Stadium.

With the win the Knights improved their overall record to 12-0 and remained at the top of MIAA standing with a 4-0 league record. 

The only goal of the game came in the 8th minute when junior Kaitlyn Van Laare (Toronto, Ont./Toronto District Christian HS) sent in an arching corner kick and freshman Lucy Iverson (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS) launched a rocket into the back of the net.

The rest of the game consisted of the two teams exchanging chances as Calvin ended the game with four shots on goal while Hope had three. However, the real standout of the match was Calvin's tight defense. It seemed as though whenever a member of Hope's team touched the ball there was a Knight on them immediately, leaving no breathing room for the Dutch. Sophomore goalkeeper Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie HS) recorded three saves in the match and marked her 12th consecutive clean sheet. In fact, after today's clean sheet, Dodge and the rest of the Calvin defense set a new school record for most consecutive shutouts.

COACHES COMMENT: "It was good to get a goal early, especially off a set piece," said Calvin head women's soccer coach Emily Ottenhoff who upped her career coaching record against Hope to 3-0-2 with the win. "Our two center backs with Kalex in goal have been really big for us and we've found ways to keep the ball out of the back of the net. We're going to enjoy the win for today and then prepare for more hard games ahead."

UP NEXT: Calvin will travel to Adrian to take on the Bulldogs on Wednesday, Oct 12th. The road match at Adrian's Docking Stadium is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
