ADRIAN, Mich. - The Calvin women's soccer team finished with a 0-0 draw at Adrian on Wednesday.
The Knights controlled possession for much of the match and finished with an 11-2 advantage in shots, but were unable to break through with a goal in rainy and windy conditions.Â
Calvin's best chance in the first half came from
Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon), whose high-arching shot from outside of the box was just within finger-tip reach of Adrian keeper Taylor Fischer.
Mueller had another chance on a similar play early in the second half that appeared to hit the cross bar, and Fischer was able to knock the ball away from the goal line just before
Tatum Goodling (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) could get her foot on it to put it in the back of the net.
The Knights won nine corner kicks in the match but were unable to take advantage, while the aggressive and physical Bulldogs' defense was able to disrupt them from connecting in the middle third of the field to earn more chances inside the box.
Calvin keeper
Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) stopped the lone shot on goal from the Bulldogs in the opening minutes of the game and finished with her 13th straight shutout this season.Â
The Knights moved to 12-0-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in MIAA play with the draw. The Bulldogs are now 6-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in league play.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Adrian is always a tough place to come play," Calvin head coach
Emily Ottenhoff said. "Credit to Adrian tonight, who played very hard and were very disruptive. We had our chances and weren't able to capitalize. Happy to come away with a point and will need to get back to work for a tough Trine team on Saturday."
NEXT UP: Calvin women's soccer will return home to host Trine on Saturday, October 15, in a game set to kick off at 7 PM.
