GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin improved to 5-1 on the dual meet season with a 156-81 victory over Division II Davenport University Friday night at the Venema Aquatic Center.
Calvin opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:32.37. The Calvin relay consisted of senior Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School), senior Bryce Miner (Sunnyvale, Ca./Homestead HS), sophomore Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Mn./Middleton HS) and senior Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Emil Friedman School).
Holstege had a strong night. In the 50 freestyle he led a 1-2 finish by taking first place in a time of 21.07 with junior teammate Jacob Heeres (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) taking second in 21.42. Holstege also took second in the 100 backstroke (53.08). Meanwhile Heeres took home a win in the 100 freestyle, winning with a time of 46.65
Freshman Joshua Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) claimed a win the 1000 freestyle with a season-best time of 10:04.62. He then placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:52.69.
Peterson was a double-winner, taking first place in the 200 freestyle (1:43.28) and 100 butterfly (50.87).
Iturbe won a tight race in the 200 IM, taking first place with a time of 1:55.60. He led off Calvin's winning 200 freestyle relay with a leadoff leg of 20.36. Calvin's relay team of Iturbe, Heeres, junior Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and senior Trevor Sparks (Otsego, Mich./Otsego HS) won the race with a final time of 1:23.73.
Calvin's diving contingent had a stellar evening. Calvin swept the top three spots in the one-meter competition. Freshman Jason Perez (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell HS) took first with a score of 201.44. Junior Jay Cen (Deerfield, Il./Deerfield HS) was second (200.54) and freshman Wilson Goodpaster (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) third (198.54).
In the three-meter diving, Cen was the winner with a score of 222.00. Senior Dat Cao (Vung Tau City, Viet Nam/Mount Saint Mary Catholic) was second (192.52) and Perez third (191.55).
