Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin split a conference doubleheader at Hope Thursday afternoon, winning the opener 4-2 before falling 7-2 in game one. The Knights stand 19-7 overall and 6-6 in the MIAA.

GAME ONE
Calvin 4, Hope 2

Seniors Ellie Borst (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) and Bri Leegwater (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) combined for the victory in the circle. Borst went the first 4.2 innings to pick up her fifth win of the season against just one defeat. Borst struck out six batters and allowed two hits. Leegwater came on in relief to pick up her fourth save of the season, setting a new Calvin single-season record for saves. It also marked the sixth save of her collegiate career, also setting a new Calvin career record.

Calvin took a 1-0 lead in the first as senior Hannah Horvath (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and later scored on a two-out single by sophomore Kali Yant (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS).

In the third, Calvin scored three runs highlighted by a pinch-hit double by junior Addi Warner (South Bend, Ind./Clay HS) that brought senior Kennedy Geiger (Clarksville, Mich./Lake Odessa HS) home from third and later allowed junior Jessica Bongiorno (Glendale Heights, Il./Glenbard West HS) to score on a Hope error.

Horvath then delivered an RBI single that brought home pinch-runner Amber Stanilius (Sparta, Mich./Sparta HS).

Hope came up with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth but Leegwater was able to slam the door on the Dutch to preserve the win.

Horvath was 3-for-4 at the plate. Geiger and senior Grace Stock (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburgh HS) added two hits apiece.

GAME TWO
Hope 7, Calvin 0

Hope scored four unearned runs to take the early momentum and kept the pressure on to gain the doubleheader split. The Flying Dutch used a hit, a passed ball and a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead in the second. An error in the third allowed Hope to score three runs with two outs in the third to build a 4-0 advantage.

Hope added three insurance runs in the sixth while limiting Calvin to three hits to stymie the Knight attack.

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to the University of Chicago on Saturday for a doubleheader with first pitch set for 1 p.m. (CDT).
