Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin outlasted a lengthy weather delay and the Adrian Bulldogs Saturday evening, defeating the Adrian Bulldogs 17-5 at Grand Rapids Christian High School.
The Knights improve to 5-2 on the season including 2-0 in the MIAA.
Calvin roared out of the gates, scoring the first eight goals of the game, en route to taking a 9-1 halftime lead.
Calvin outscored Adrian 5-1 in the third quarter and cruised the rest of the way to gain the win.
Calvin outshot Adrian 56-29. Junior goalie Evan Griffin (Howell, Mich./Hartland HS) went the first three quarters and made eight saves. Freshman Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Il./Hononegah HS) came on for the final quarter and had two saves for the Knights.
Senior Nathan Jindra (South Bend, Ind./John Adams HS) had a big game on the attack with three goals and four assists to go with three ground balls.
Junior Nick Dueweke (Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep HS) was the beneficiary of a pair of dimes from Jindra as he scored a game-high five goals. Senior Noah Boelens (Round Lake Il./Grayslake Central HS) had two goals and three assists. Junior Drew Stoneburner (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) had a pair of goals. Sophomore Josh Newhouse (Grand Junction, Co./Palisade HS) tallied his first collegiate goal to go with an assist. Freshman Evan Rhode (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) had a goal and an assist.
Junior Chase Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) had a goal, two assists and a game-high six ground balls while winning 8 of 15 in the faceoff circle. Rhode was 7-for-10 on faceoffs for the Knights. Sophomore Robert Miner (Littleton, Co./Columbine HS) had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Ethan Curtis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) had a goal. Freshman Jefferson Yon (Fairfax, Va./Trinity Christian HS) had two assists. Senior Zach Stanley (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn HS) and junior Hunter Stearns each had an assist. Freshman Ethan Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) had three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
COACHES COMMENT: "We had a great team win today," said Calvin men's lacrosse head coach Dave Hoger. "They guys played hard and competed in every aspect of the game. It was great to see our toughness and hard work on display today. We look forward to getting back to work on Monday for a huge week of conference games."
