Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Calvin men's lacrosse dropped a 19-6 non-conference rivalry contest to Hope at Grand Rapids Christian High School on Saturday afternoon.
Hope (2-0 overall, 2-0 MIAA) brought a lot of energy right away in the first quarter as it outscored Calvin (1-1 overall, 1-1 MIAA) 7-0, and didn't let up in the second.
The Flying Dutch scored three more goals to make the score 10-0 with 11:46 left in the quarter. The Knights had their first goal scored by Nick Dueweke (Clarkston, MI / Notre Dame Prep) shortly after to make a 10-1 game. Calvin scored five of its goals in the final quarter of play to complete the final margin of victory.
Calvin (1-1) ended up winning more faceoffs 16-13, but Hope caused more turnovers with 10 to Calvin's 8. The Flying Dutchmen (2-0) also collected more ground balls with 28 and the Knights finished with 26. The Knights finished with 24 turnovers on the day as well.
Nick Dueweke had a hat trick with three goals while Nathan Jindra (South Bend, IN / John Adams), Ethan Curtis (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) and Drew Stoneburner (Wheaton, IL / Wheaton North) each finished with one apiece.
