Box Score ALMA, Mich. - The Calvin men's lacrosse team moved to 3-1 on the young season with an impressive 12-3 non-conference victory at Alma Saturday night.
Calvin stormed out of the gates, leading 4-0 after one quarter of play and moved into a 7-1 advantage at halftime. Calvin outscored the Scots (1-6) 4-2 in the third quarter and cruised through the final 15 minutes to collect the victory.
Junior Drew Stoneburner (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) led the way with four goals and two assists.
Senior Nathan Jindra (South Bend, Ind./John Adams HS) also had a big night with three goals and two assists. Junior Chase Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) had two goals and an assist.
Senior Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) had a pair of goals.
Junior Nick Dueweke (Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) also had a goal in the win.
Freshman Ethan Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) scooped up five ground balls. Junior Evan Griffin was terrific in goal with 17 saves in 55 minutes of action while also snaring five ground balls. Freshman Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Il./Hononegah HS) came on for the final five minutes and posted a pair of saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "Today was a great team win," said Calvin head men's lacrosse coach Dave Hoger. "We executed in all phases of the which was fun to see. We're excited to rest up and get back to work next week."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Albion on March 31, in a game set to start at 7 p.m.
