NAPERVILLE, Il. - Calvin dropped a 16-2 decision at North Central College Saturday afternoon.

The Knights are now 1-1 on the season.

The host Cardinals (1-0) led 7-2 at halftime and then scored six third quarter goals to put the game away.

Senior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) and sophomore Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) scored goals for Calvin in defeat. Both came on man-up opportunities. Freshman Chase Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) assisted on the Bontreger goal while Boelens scored unassisted, also in a man-up situation.

Sophomore Gerrit Kurtycz (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) went the first 45 minutes in goal for the Knights and recorded eight saves. Freshman Evan Griffin (Howell, Mich./Hartland HS) went the final 15 minutes and collected two saves.

Calvin is back in action on Thursday when it hosts the Hanover College Panthers at 4 p.m. at Grand Rapids Christian High School.
