ITHACA, N.Y. - Calvin picked up its second win over a Top 25 team in as many days as the Knights dropped No. 17 Juniata in a five-set thriller Saturday afternoon at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. Calvin defeated Juniata 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 17-25, 15-5. Calvin finishes the tournament with a 3-0 weekend record.

After defeating No. 8 Ithaca Friday night, Calvin met its second nationally-ranked foe less than 24 hours later in Juniata.

Juniata (1-2) came out swinging in set one against the Knights, hitting at a .268 clip. Calvin answered back by hitting .379 in set two, scoring five of the final six points to even the match.

After leading 17-12 in set three, Calvin fell behind 21-20 but again ripped off five of the final six points to gain the win.

Juniata fought back with a strong set four win, hitting .250 as a team.

The Knights got off a quick start in set five however with strong agressive serves. Freshman Kelsey Smith (Vienna, Va./Madison HS) had a pair of early service aces as the Knights built a 9-2 lead. Calvin used strong attacking play from senior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) and juniors Sarah DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) and Ally Fea (Mechanicsburg, PA./Mechanicsburg HS) to close out the set and the match.

"It wasn't pretty at times but we gutted the match out and showed a lot of energy going into the fifth set," said Calvin women's volleyball coach Amber Warners. "The women have worked incredibly hard over the past two weeks so it was nice to get the results we wanted this weekend. We have a lot of work to do as we will need to continue to improve and sharpen our play. We had great competition this weekend and a thank you goes out to Ithaca for hosting a great tournament and providing a wonderful experience."

Kamp led Calvin in the win with 20 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Grace Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) had six kills, 14 digs and four aces. DeVries had a monster match with nine kills, eight digs, four block assists and 21 assists.

Freshman Anna Schriemer (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) tallied 19 assists. Fea had six kills and six block assists. Junior Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS) had 12 digs while sophomore Sydney Segard (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had three kills and three block assists.

Calvin will now prepare to co-host the MIAA Crossover Challenge next weekend inside the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex.
