Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin fell to rival Hope 13-0 on a frigid Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
Hope outshot Calvin 52-9 and forced the Knights into 32 turnovers.
Calvin was 19 for 32 on clear attempts but Hope won 13 of 17 face-off opportunities.
Hope led 3-0 after one quarter and 7-0 at halftime before adding three goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Calvin freshman goaltender Mitchell Wong (Schaumburg, Il./Schaumburg HS) came up with a career-high 25 saves for the Knights while also collecting a career-high 15 ground balls.
Senior Derek VanderBrug (Woburn, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) had three ground balls and caused two Hope turnovers. Junior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) and sophomore Griffin Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) had three ground balls apiece. Sophomore Nick Pitre (Jacksonville, Fl./Providence HS) also caused two Hope turnovers.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Adrian for a 7 p.m. game.
