Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin dropped a hard-fought 17-8 decision at Hope Tuesday night at Van Andel Stadium.
Calvin got off to a slow start, trailing 4-0 after one quarter and 7-0 early in the second quarter. The Knights were able to come back with three second quarter goals as junior Chris Griffin (Hartland/Hartland HS), junior Joel Schaefer (Clarksville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian HS) and sophomore Ethan Brown (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth HS) scored for the Knights.
Hope was able to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
Calvin (5-5 overall, 0-1 MIAA) outscored Hope 4-1 in the third quarter to trail 11-7 heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Freshman Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills/Bloomfield Brother Rice HS), freshman Jonathon Miller (Boise, ID/Ambrose School), freshman Hunter Naggs (Cedarburg, Wisc./Cedarburg HS) and Griffin scored third period goals for the Knights.
Hope pulled away in the fourth quarter however, outscoring the Knights 6-1 in the final period to seal the win.
Hope outshot Calvin 31-14 but freshman goalkeeper Tristan Parece (Kelowna, British Columbia/Kelowna Secondary School) came up with 14 saves.
Calvin has a quick turnaround as it will host Olivet on Thursday at 4 p.m. in conference play.
