Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Calvin men's lacrosse team was defeated at Capital University 22-7 Saturday afternoon as the Knights (4-3) saw their two-game win streak come to an end.
Calvin stayed with Capital (7-2) early in the game as a goal by junior Chris Griffin (Hartland/Hartland HS) tied the game 3-3 with 5:57 left in the first quarter. Capital scored five unanswered goals to end the quarter and never looked back.
The host Crusaders led 13-5 at halftime and then outscored Calvin 9-2 in the second half.
"It was a hard fight for our team," said Calvin men's lacrosse coach Luke Griemsman. "We are battling through some injuries which makes it difficult to keep up all four quarters. We will keep working and striving to improve."
Sophomore Nate Ray (Northville/Northville HS) had a pair of goals and an assist this year for the Knights. Griffin also had two goals. Scoring single goals for Calvin were junior Joel Schaefer (Clarksville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian HS), sophomore Ethan Brown (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth HS) and freshman Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS).
Freshman Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had an assist and seven ground balls. Brown also scooped up six ground balls.
Freshman goalie Tristan Parece (Kelowna, British Columbia/Kelowna Secondary) picked up 18 saves for the Knights.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Benedictine (Il) at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport University.
