The Calvin women's swimming and diving team split dual meet competitions against Division II competition Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
Calvin defeated Hillsdale 176-114 but fell to Grand Valley State 211.5-85.5.
Junior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a stellar day of competition for the Knights, winning the 50 freestyle (24.29) and 100 freestyle (52.98). Van Harn led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the 50 freestyle as freshman Anna Kutschke (Manistee, Mich./Manistee HS) was second (24.78) and freshman Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) third (24.89).
Kutschke was also fourth in the 100 freestyle (55.44). Freshman Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) tied for third in the 500 freestyle (5:23.21) and was fifth in the 1,000 freestyle (11:08.36).
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan HS) was fourth (2:01.15) and freshman Libby Engle (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) was sixth (2:04.03).
Sophomore Kendall Murphy (Modesto, Ca./Home Schooled) was fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:20.34) and sixth in the 1,000 freestyle (11:09.36).
Junior Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) also had a standout afternoon, winning the three-meter diving competition (245.70) and second on the one-meter board (251.40). Sophomore Amelia Andrilenas (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita HS) was third on the three-meter board (149.85).
Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Gunderson, Kutschke, freshman Abbey Wellmen (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) and Van Harn took third in a time of 1:53.33. Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron HS), Serino, sophomore Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Van Harn took second in a time of 3:39.78.
Calvin is back in action next Saturday, competing in a dual meet at Olivet beginning at 1 p.m.
