GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's swimming & diving team fell to Wayne State on Friday night, 145-96. The loss moves Calvin to 6-2 on the year and 1-2 against NCAA Division II competition.
"I think it was a working meet for us," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "We moved some people around and tried to get some people in one more event before we go home for Thanksgiving and we just wanted to get through with no drama and consistency and I believe that we accomplished that and now one more solid workout tomorrow before we start accumulating some rest."
Freshman Anna Serino (Pinckey, Mich./Pinckey) placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.75.
Sophomore Abby VanHarn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) clocked in a second place time of 24.56 in the 50 freestyle on Friday. VanHarn also finished second in the 100 freestyle at 53.82.
Freshman Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) took first place in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall at 5:24.45. Sophomore Ana Estrella (Hudsonville, Mich./Calvin Christian) finished behind in second at 5:38.22.
Junior Adrienne Wesselius (Sioux City, Iowa/Unity Christian) took first-place points with a time of 1:13.83 in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Klara Oh (Kent, Wash./Home school) took second-place points at 1:14.44.
The team of senior Megan Schroder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), sophomore Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron), freshman Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Abby VanHarn finished the evening by taking first-place points in the 200 free relay at 1:39.73.
The Knights return to the pool for the Calvin Invite Dec. 3-5 at the Venema Aquatic Center.
