Box Score 1 Calvin dropped both ends of a doubleheader to nationally-ranked Trine University on Saturday, falling by scores of 6-0 and 8-0. The Thunder came into the twinbill ranked fifth nationally.
With the sweep, Trine stretched its MIAA regular season win streak to 44 games, matching the longest regular season conference win streak in MIAA softball history.
Trine (30-1 overall, 14-0 MIAA) used dominant pitching in both games.
In game one, junior Bree Fuller tossed a no-hitter, striking out 14 Calvin batters and walking only two. The game remained scoreless however until the fifth when the Thunder used three hits and two Calvin errors to score a pair of runs. Trine then added four insurance runs in the sixth to help seal the win.
Senior Caitlin Callow (Muskegon/Muskegon Catholic Central HS) took the loss for Calvin to fall to 11-5 on the year.
In game two, Trine used eight hits and four Calvin errors to put away the Knights in six innings in a game shortened by the mercy-rule.
Freshman Paige Groom (Potterville/Potterville HS) took the loss for Calvin to fall to 0-1 on the year.
Senior Ashley Jakus (Muskegon/Muskegon Reeths-Puffer HS) had the lone hit for Calvin in defeat.
Calvin (18-10 overall, 6-4 MIAA) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Alma for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
