ALMA, Mich. - Today the No. 16 ranked Calvin women's volleyball team defeated the Scots of Alma in three straight sets in a non-conference clash. After tonight's match the Knights improved to an overall record of 8-2 while Alma fell to a 6-8 record.
 
In the first set, with the home crowd on their side, the Scots looked to build some early momentum when they took a 14-9 lead over Calvin. However, over the next several minutes the Knights slowly chipped away at the lead until the set was tied at 25-25 apiece. An Alma attack error gave Calvin the advantage before sophomore Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) the knock-out kill to seal the set and give the Knights the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Sarah Bradley (Clarkston, Mich./Everest Collegiate) led the way with six kills and five digs in the first set.
 
The Knights kept things rolling in the second set where they delivered a convincing 25-16 win while posting a team hitting percentage of .536, their highest of the match. Senior Allison Moore (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Christian) was a big contributor as she delivered an impressive six kills during the set.
 
In the third set, not willing to go down without a fight, the Scots rallied and kept the score close until the very end. Similar to the first set, everything was tied at 25-25 until a kill by Bradley and an attacking error by the Scots gave Calvin the set and the 3-0 victory.
 
The Knights finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .231 while holding the Scots to a hitting percentage of .196. Calvin also recorded nine service aces with Lina Kasuboski (Racine, Wis./Union Grove) being responsible for four of them.
 
Bradley packed the stat sheet when she finished the match with fourteen kills, thirteen digs, two service aces and one assist. Senior Mary Boa (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood International Charter) chipped in twelve kills while Moore finished with nine. Senior libero Tryna Vander Zwaag (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian) finished the night with eleven digs and freshman setter Olivia Peterson (Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) passed off thirty-nine assists.
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, October 3rd when they travel to Richmond, Indiana to take Otterbein University at 1 PM followed by Earlham College at 3 PM.
