KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Calvin University baseball team suffered two defeats at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo (24-2, 8-0 MIAA) started the day by winning the suspended game from April 1 at Calvin (9-18, 0-8) 10-6 in the 13th inning, and then won the previously scheduled game 18-8 in seven innings.

April 1 Game

The two teams started the afternoon by re-starting the suspended game from April 1 in the top of the 12th inning.

After the two teams remained tied 4-4 after 12 innings, the Hornets scored six times in the top of the 13th inning off
James Ross (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) to take a 10-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning,
Ryan Tschirhart (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) hit a two-run home run but that would be as close as score would get as the Hornets held on for the win.

April 8 Game

Calvin started the game after strong, but a 10-run Kalamazoo fourth inning helped the Hornets to an 18-8 win in seven innings.

The Knights scored three times in the first inning thanks to a Tschirhart RBI-single, a Kalamazoo error and a
Cam Seth (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) walk, and then added another run in the top of the fourth inning on another RBI-single from Tschirhart to take a 4-2 lead.

The Hornets tied the game at 4-4 on a double play in the fourth, and then added eight more runs (seven unearned) with two outs to take a 12-4 lead.

The Knights trailed 16-4 through six innings before scoring four times in the seventh with the help of two Kalamazoo errors, but the Hornets added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead back to 10 runs to end the game.

Landon Evans (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) led Calvin with three hits, while
Gabe Bonemer (Okemos, Mich./Okemos),
Landen Mikula (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns) and Tschirhart each had two hits apiece. Seth and Tschirhart each had two RBI.

Noah Etnyre (Northville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in 3.2 innings.

NEXT UP: Calvin baseball will return to action on Friday, April 10, when it hosts The University of Olivet in a game scheduled to start at 4:00 PM to start their three-game weekend series.
