GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team opened an important final week of the MIAA season with a 7-0 sweep of Adrian College on Wednesday at Strikwerda Tennis Center.
Calvin (7-7, 5-0) earned a win over Adrian (6-12, 2-4 MIAA) to start a stretch of three matches over four days to remain tied for first place in the conference standings.
The Knights opened the match by taking two of the three doubles contests to earn the first point. The one-doubles team of
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and Mario Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) won 6-1 and the three-doubles team of
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Caleb Bartels (Loch Lloyd, Mo./Kansas City Christian) won 6-4 to complete the sweep followed with a 6-3 win, with the Bulldogs winning the two-doubles match over the team of of
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) (6-2, 6-0) and
Diego Castellanos (Tarija, Bolivia/La Salle Tarija) 6-2.
In singles, the Knights swept the Bulldogs in six straight sets matches.
Alipio (6-0, 6-2), Bartels (6-0, 6-1), Sartori (6-0, 6-1), Castellanos (6-3, 6-1), Neto (6-0, 6-4) and Warners (6-2, 6-2) each earned singles wins to secure the victory.
