Calvin Women's Lacrosse Crowned MIAA Regular Season Co-Champion After Defeating Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's lacrosse team competed in its final game of the regular season when it defeated the Bulldogs of Adrian College on the road. With tonight's victory the Knights improved to a 12-5 overall record and a 6-1 MIAA record while also securing MIAA regular season co-title, Calvin's fifth league crown overall and first since 2021.

The Knights got things rolling right away when junior Megan Gibbs (Perrysburg, Oh./Perrysburg) found sophomore Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) for the first goal of the day one minute into the game. Johnson went on to score four more goals during the first quarter while freshman Celene Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) chipped in one of her own to give Calvin a 6-3 lead.

The goal scoring rampage from the Knights continued in the second quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 8-4 with Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian), Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown), and Kendall Hoving (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) all getting on the score sheet. Senior Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) scored three goals on her own to help boost the Knights to a commanding 14-7 lead at the half.

Calvin dominated the third quarter when it scored five unanswered goals before taking care of business defensively in the fourth quarter to pick up the 21-14 win. The Knights out shot the Bulldogs 37-35 while Adrian picked up 26 ground balls compared to Calvin 24.

Booher finished her day with six goals, four assists and one ground ball while Johnson also notched six goals and one assist. Bethard was close behind with five goals and sophomore Corinne Plumb (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) notched a team high six ground balls and eight draw controls. In goal, junior Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) finished the night with ten saves.

UP NEXT: With tonight's win the Knights secured the two-seed in the MIAA Tournament where they will receive a first-round bye. Calvin will be back in action on Tuesday, April 28th when they compete in the MIAA Semifinals at Zuidema Field.
