BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Calvin dropped a 14-9 decision at CCIW power Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday in the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Knights.
Calvin (7-2) fell behind 5-2 after one quarter of play. The Knights closed to within two at 7-5 at halftime. The Titans scored all three goals in the third period to build a 10-5 lead. Calvin scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to creep within two at 10-8 but Illinois Wesleyan put the game away with four unanswered goals to quell the Calvin threat.
Calvin's fourth quarter comeback bid began with a goal by freshman
Braylon Moore (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) off an assist by junior Riley DeSarbo (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central HS). Moore scored again with 9:14 remaining to make it 10-7. Senior
Nate Hanson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) won the ensuing faceoff and moments later, scored an unassisted goal to make it 10-8 with 8:58 left to play.
Illinois Wesleyan (7-4) stymied the momentum with a goal just 14 seconds later. A pair of turnovers led to a pair of Titan goals and the lead quickly swelled to 13-8.
Calvin's final goal came from senior
Braden Carpenter (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) with 1:51 remaining after Illinois Wesleyan had built a 14-8 lead.
Illinois Wesleyan held a 32-20 shots on goal advantage.
Moore led the Calvin offense with a pair of goals. Sophomore
Colin TeBrake (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview HS) had a goal and an assist. Senior
David Blackmon (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North HS) had a goal. Junior
Drew Garrison (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) had a goal and caused four opponent turnovers. Carpenter had a goal and an assist. Carpenter's goal was the 79
th of his collegiate career, moving him into a tie for sixth place on the Calvin career goals list with former teammate
Christian Coler.

Jordan Warners (Orange, Ca./Crean Lutheran HS) had a goal and three ground balls. Freshman
Hudson Thiemann (Plano, Tx./Plano Senior HS) had a goal. Junior
Jackson Engbers (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) caused three opponent turnovers and was credited with two ground balls.

Ben Dilly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) came up with four ground balls and caused one turnover. Senior
Duncan Billings (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) caused two opponent turnovers and was credited with two ground balls. Junior
Sawyer Richards (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) also caused two opponent turnovers and scooped up a pair of ground balls.

Soren Thiemann (Plano, Tx./Plano Senior HS) was busy in goal, producing 18 saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "We played a tough opponent which did a good job capitalizing on our mistakes," said Calvin head men's lacrosse coach
Dave Hoger. "Our guys played hard and we learned a lot from today that we will take into conference play next week. The new season starts now."
NEXT UP: Calvin will open up its conference schedule next Wednesday when it travels to Trine for a 7 p.m. contest.
