EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Today the Calvin women's lacrosse team capped off its opening weekend road trip with a 19-9 victory over the Blue Devils of Wisconsin-Stout.

The Knights carried their momentum from yesterday into the first period when senior
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) found sophomore
Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) for the first goal of the game. Two minutes later,
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) scored off an assist from
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) to give Calvin a 2-0 lead after the first fifteen minutes of play.

Calvin increased its offensive pressure in the second period as it went on a goal-scoring rampage. Booher notched three goals while senior
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) chipped in two. Bethard got in on the scoring action of an assist from sophomore
Corinne Plumb (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) while Johnson also added to her total. The Blue Devils tried to respond with a goal of their own but the Knights still held an impressive 9-1 lead at the half.

Stout worked to close the gap in the third period when they outscored the Knights 7-4 to bring the score within five. However, Calvin once again found its groove as it started the fourth period on a 6-0 scoring run to once again extend its lead. The Blue Devils were able to net a goal of their own late in the game but it was no match for the Knights who went on to pick up the dominant 19-9 win.Â

The Knights outshot the Blue Devils 36-24 while securing eighteen draw controls compared to Wisconsin-Stouts eleven.Â

Booher led the way with a team high seven goals while Johnson notched four and Smith chipped in three. Johnson led the way in ground balls with three while Booher, Bethard, and senior
Natalie Scott (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) each recorded two caused turnovers. Junior
Jessica Eenigenburg (Norton Shores, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) secured four draw controls while Plumb nabbed three.

COACHES COMMENTS: "I'm very happy with the team's production today," said head coach
Blake Boehm. "We have learned a lot in a short amount of time and we're excited to build on the foundation we've laid. When we find our rhythm, we're playing fast, physical, unselfish lacrosse."

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Friday, February 5th when they travel to Marquette, Michigan, to take on Northern Michigan University at 5 PM.
