Led by head coach Dan Gelderloos, the Calvin men's swimming and diving team is sending seven individuals to the NCAA III Championships scheduled to take place March 18-21 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Scheduled to represent the Knights are seniors Charles Platt, Jacob Ziegler and Caleb Gemmen, junior Ryan Halberg, sophomore Carter Detweiler and freshmen Jackson Merkel and David Gabrielle.


CHARLES PLATT (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North HS)

Charles Platt is making his fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA III Championships. He has a busy slate ahead of him as he will compete in three individual events and four relays. He will compete in the 100 backstroke where he is seeded third (47.19), the 200 freestyle where he is seeded fifth (1:36.27) and the 100 freestyle where he is seeded fourth (43.15). He will also swim in the 200 medley relay (9^th, 1:27.70), 400 medley relay (12^th, 3:14.64), 400 freestyle relay (11^th, 2:58.50) and 800 freestyle relay (seeded sixth, 6:32.25).  

JACOB ZIEGLER (Toledo, Oh./St. John's Jesuit HS)

Ziegler is making his first trip to the NCAA III Championships. He will compete in the 800 freestyle relay.

CALEB GEMMEN (Mentor, Oh./Home School)

Gemmen is making his fourth straight trip to the NCAA III Championships. He will compete in the 100 breaststroke where he is seeded 26^th (54.90) and as a member of Calvin's 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams.

RYAN HALBERG (Novi, Mich./Northville HS)

Halberg is making his first appearance at the NCAA III Championships. He will compete in Calvin's 200 freestyle relay that is seeded 19^th (1:20.94) and on Calvin's 800 freestyle relay.

CARTER DETWEILER (Farmington Hills, Mich./Council Rock North)

Detweiler is making his first trip to the NCAA III Championships as a member of the Calvin men's swimming and diving team. He will compete as a member of Calvin's 400 freestyle relay.

DAVID GABRIELLE (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS)

Gabrielle is making his first trip to the NCAA III Championships. He will compete in the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay.

JACKSON MERKEL (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS)

Merkel is making his first trip to the NCAA III Championships. Individually, he will compete in the 100 backstroke where he is seeded fifth (47.53), the 200 backstroke where he is seeded fifth (1:45.70) and the 200 freestyle where he is seeded 41^st (1:43.20). He will also compete as a member of Calvin's 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay.

A year ago, Calvin placed 11^th at the NCAA III Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
