ALMA, Mich. – The Calvin University men's basketball team won its final road game of the regular season 92-63 at Alma College on Wednesday.
Calvin (17-7, 9-4 MIAA) got strong contributions from up and down the line-up and shot 50.0 percent from the field while holding Alma (4-20, 2-11 MIAA) to 36.1 percent shooting and forcing 16 turnovers.
The Knights dominated play in the opening half, shooting 58.6 percent from the field and making four of nine attempts from three-point range on the way to a 50-29 halftime lead.
Luka Ressler (Caledonia, Mich./Catholic Central) led the charge on offense for Calvin with 12 points and three assists, while
Jordan Scott (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian) and
Jalen Overway (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) each added nine points for the Knights.
Calvin continued to control the game throughout the second half, building a lead as high as 35 points (80-45) with under nine minutes to play and never allowing the Scots to cut the lead below 19 points.
Zion Ruckard (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest/St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Calvin offense in the second half with 10 points on the way to a career-high 17 for the game.
The Knights dominated the paint throughout, outscoring the Scots 38-22 in the paint while also turning 16 Alma turnovers into 21 points on the other end. Calvin also finished the night with 34 points off the bench, led by Ruckard's 17 and
Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview/Ohio Dominican) finished with nine.
Overway led the Knights with 18 points to go with six rebounds. Ressler finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
