GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's volleyball team extended their win streak to ten in a row when they defeated the Britons of Albion. Both teams entered today's match undefeated in MIAA play but after four grueling sets Calvin improved to 5-0 in the conference and 18-2 overall.
Â
In the first set the Knights looked to set the tone as they picked up a quick 25-16 win over the Brits with sophomore
Sarah Bradley (Clarkston, Mich./Everest Collegiate) leading the charge with seven kills. Freshman setter
Olivia Peterson (Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) and senior
Mary Boa (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood International Charter) both recorded four block assists in the first set.
Â
Calvin kept the energy high in the second set and extended their lead to 2-0 thanks to a 25-19 win. Bradley matched her kill numbers from the first set while fellow sophomore
Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) chipped in three kills of her own.
Â
With their backs against the wall, Albion came up big as they snuck out a 15-19 win over the Knights and the match pushed onward to the fourth set.
Â
Trying to build on the momentum they had created, the Brits took a 14-9 lead over Calvin. However, the Knights refused to yield as they slowly but surely chipped away at the lead until the score was tied at 20-20. A clutch kill from Boa gave the Knights their first lead of the set and back-to-back attacking errors from Albion gave them a bit of breathing room. A monster kill from senior
Allison Moore (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Christian) swung the momentum decisively in favor of Calvin before one final kill from Boa gave the Knights the 25-22 win in the set and the 3-1 victory.
Â
Calvin finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .204 with their best performance of .278 coming in the second set. Bradley finished with a team high 21 kills as well as 18 digs, two block assists and one solo block. Moore finished the match with 13 kills while Schipper finished with eight.
Â
Boa posted four block assists and eight kills while freshman
Kate Van Appledorn (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) recorded six kills during the match. Senior libero
Tryna Vander Zwaag (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian) finished the evening with a team high 21 digs while Peterson led the team with 40 assists.

COACHES COMMENTS: "I think matches like this are a good learning experience for us," said head coach
Amber Warners. "We have to learn that it doesn't matter who we play, we must come out with intensity. The name of the game is serve and pass so we just have to remember to stay aggressive going forward."
