GROVE CITY, Pa. – The 18th-ranked Calvin University women's swimming and diving team defeated Grove City College 161-98 in a dual meet on Friday.
With the Knights competing in a triangular meet on Saturday, Friday's meet featured a number of shorter races that resulted in eight individual wins for the Knights as well as two relay wins.
The meet started in the 200 Medley Relay, where Calvin's 'A' relay took first place in a time of 1:50.03 while the 'B' relay finished third in 1:55.54.
The first individual win for Calvin came in the 200 Freestyle by
Holly VanderWeele (San Antonio, Texas/Great Hearts Monte Vista North) in a time of 2:00.99. She was followed in second place by
Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) in 2:02.17.
Madi McNearney (Riverside, Mo./Park Hill South) won the 50 Backstroke in 27.59, followed by
Grace Schutter (Shelby Township, Mich./Dwight D. Eisenhower) in 29.63. McNearney and Schutter also finished 1-2 in the 100 Backstroke in 1:01.54 and 1:03.99, respectively, while Bengelink (1:05.3) took third in that competition.
Elise Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./Brookewood School) took home two first-place finishes on the night. She won the 50 Breaststroke in 29.54 and followed that with a win in the 100 Freestyle in 53.52.
Gracie Ganger (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) took second (31.08) in the 50 Breaststroke, while
Maria Heeres (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished third (55.48) in the 100 Freestyle.
Ganger added a first-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke thanks to a time of 1:08.15.
Elyse Radawski (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) took third in 1:11.16.
Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.) finished second in both the 100 Butterfly (1:00.79) and 100 IM (1:03.17).
Alea Casipit (Midland, Mich./Herbert Henry Dow) finished third (1:02.41) in the 100 Butterfly, while
Eloise Harrison (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) finished third (1:03.49) in the 100 IM.
VanderWeele, Heeres and
Sara Algera (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished in 2-4 in the 50 Freestyle, with VanderWeele's time of 25.36 leading the trio.
Veronica Skipper (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) won both diving competitions at the meet, taking first off the one-meter board with 256.9 points to go with 250.05 points off the three-meter board.
Leah Schouten (St. Davids, Ontario/Eden) finished third off both boards, scoring 226.25 off the three-meter board and 187.05 off the one-meter board.
In the final event of the day, the Calvin 'A' 200 Freestyle Relay took first in 1:38.84.
NEXT UP: The Calvin swimming and diving team will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 31) when it competes in a triangular meet at Carnegie Mellon University against Carnegie Mellon and Denison University.
