CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Calvin women's soccer team fell on the road to the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University. After today's match the Knights moved to a 2-4 overall record while the Spartans improved to 7-0-1.
Â
As the first half got underway the Knights looked to put pressure on the Spartan defense right out the gate. Graduate student
Liz Williams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and senior
Mia Judd (Grand Ledge, Mich./Lansing Christian) both got early shots on goal, but the chances were smothered by the Case Western goalkeeper.
Â
With just eight minutes left in the half the Spartans broke through the Knights defensive armor and slipped a shot into the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead. Just one minute later, Case Western took advantage of the momentum swinging in their direction as they scored another goal and sent the Knights into halftime trailing 2-0.Â
Â
In the second half, Case Western buckled down on defense as they limited the Knights scoring opportunities. Junior
Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) and freshman
Alexa Boersma (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) recorded Calvin's only shots of the half as the Knights ultimately fell 2-0 to Case Western.
Â
The Spartans outshot the Knights 27-8 while Calvin goalkeeper
Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) finished the match with ten saves.Â
