Calvin Football Turf Field Commissioned on First Day of Team Camp

The Calvin University football turf field was officially commissioned in front of more than 100 Calvin football players and assembled friends and family members Tuesday afternoon.

The football turf field – located behind the Calvin baseball stadium on the northwest corner of the Calvin campus-  will be the site of the Calvin football program's practices this fall. Equipped with permanent lights surrounding the field near the entrance of Calvin's Lake Drive entrance, the field is part of an initial three-part phase to build a permanent football stadium on the site. It will also be the eventual home of the Calvin men's and women's lacrosse teams. All of Calvin's home football games in 2025 will be played on campus at the Calvin Soccer Stadium.

Construction for the football turf field began this past April. Turf was laid in early summer and was recently completed with full Calvin athletics branded signage on the field.

Tuesday was the report to campus date for the Calvin football program as nearly 120 student-athletes arrived on campus to begin the third fall of Calvin University football including its second with a varsity schedule.

Calvin head football coach Trent Figg led the commissioning ceremony with a prayer. Figg gave thanks for the gift of the field, the families and players that are part of Calvin football and asked that everyone involved be great stewards of the facility.

The Calvin University football team is set to kick off its 2025 campaign on September 6 when it travel to Oberlin College for a noon (ET) contest.
