HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 4-1 defeat at top-seeded Hope College in the semifinal round of the MIAA Tennis Tournament on Wednesday at DeWitt Tennis Center.
Calvin (14-6) battled in a competitive trio of doubles matches, but Hope (17-6) secured the doubles point by winning two of the three contests.
For the Knights, the number-two team of
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) won 6-3, but the Dutch won the numbers-one (6-2) and numbers-three (6-4) matches to earn the one point.
In singles, Hope secured the overall win with victories in each of the top three seeded matches.
Calvin did earn one point in singles thanks to a 6-1, 6-4 win by
Marina Ribeiro (santos Sal Paolo, Brazil/Santa Cecilia) in number-four singles. Hooker trailed 2-6, 6-6 in her match when the Dutch secured their fourth point, while Morey won her first set 6-2 before dropping the second set 4-6.

Jon Goorhouse said. "Would have loved to finish out all the matches, but we will have to wait until next season for that."
