ORLANDO, Fla. – The Calvin University men's tennis team lost for the first time during its spring break trip by a 5-2 final to Wheaton College at the USTA National Campus on Thursday.
The number-three Calvin (5-4) doubles team of
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) won 6-1, but Wheaton (3-6) was able to win the other two doubles contests to secure the 1-0 overall lead heading into singles play.
In singles, Calvin scored two points thanks to straight set wins by
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian), but the Thunder topped the Knights in the other four singles matches to take the overall 5-2 win.
Alipio's won his one-singles match 6-4, 6-0. Broek won in four-singles 6-4, 6-1.
The defeat was the first for the Knights in 2025 and snapped a four-match winning streak dating back to the fall season.

Jon Goorhouse said. "It would have been nice to get a win, but this makes us better and shows us what we need to work on. Looking forward to another tough match against Carthage tomorrow."
NEXT UP: Calvin tennis will return to action tomorrow (Friday, March 14) when it closes its spring break trip with a 9:00 AM match against Carthage College at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
