LISLE, Il. – The Calvin men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 16-10 victory at Benedictine University Friday afternoon.
Calvin jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and later led 8-3 at halftime. Senior
Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Grosse Pointe South) scored four first half goals to lead the charge.
The Knights outscored Benedictine 8-2 in the third quarter to build a 16-5 lead heading into the final frame. Benedictine scored the remaining five goals of the game – all in the fourth quarter – to complete the final margin of victory.
Smith finished the game with five goals, three assists and eight points to go with two ground balls. He is just five goals away from becoming Calvin's all-time leader in that category. He also boosted his career points total to 125, moving past Max Foster and into third place on the Calvin career list. The five-goal game was his third hat trick of the season and 17
th of his career.

Colin TeBrake (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview HS) netted a pair of goals to go with two ground balls. Senior
Cole McKenney (Mission Viejo, Calif. Trabuco Hills) had a goal and three assists. Junior

Nate Hanson (Naperville, Ill. Naperville North) had five ground balls and was 18 for 25 in the faceoff circle. DeSarbo, sophomore
Jackson Engbers (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and senior
Josh Gage (Livonia, Mich. Detroit Catholic Central) all had four ground balls. Gage also caused three turnovers.
Senior
Carter Sherman (Ada, Mich. Lowell) went the first 45 minutes in goal for the Knights and produced four saves. Freshman
Jack Bermel (Wheaton, Il. Wheaton North) went the final 15 minutes and recorded eight saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "Great team win tonight," said Calvin head coach
Dave Hoger. "I'm proud of the way our guys came alive, especially in the third quarter. We had great toughness and resiliency. We're excited to get out and compete again tomorrow."
