Calvin Men's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten With 16-10 Victory at Benedictine

LISLE, Il. – The Calvin men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 16-10 victory at Benedictine University Friday afternoon.

Calvin jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and later led 8-3 at halftime. Senior Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Grosse Pointe South) scored four first half goals to lead the charge.

The Knights outscored Benedictine 8-2 in the third quarter to build a 16-5 lead heading into the final frame. Benedictine scored the remaining five goals of the game – all in the fourth quarter – to complete the final margin of victory.

Smith finished the game with five goals, three assists and eight points to go with two ground balls. He is just five goals away from becoming Calvin's all-time leader in that category. He also boosted his career points total to 125, moving past Max Foster and into third place on the Calvin career list. The five-goal game was his third hat trick of the season and 17th of his career.

Freshman Colin TeBrake (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview HS) netted a pair of goals to go with two ground balls. Senior Cole McKenney (Mission Viejo, Calif. Trabuco Hills) had a goal and three assists.
