Two members of the Calvin men's soccer team have received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. The two individuals to receive the honor include junior
Matt Torrell and sophomore
James Jackson.
Torrell has also advanced to the national ballot and is now eligible for CSC Academic All-America consideration.
To receive CSC Academic All-District accolades, individuals needed to have maintained a cumulative 3.50 grade point average or higher, completed two full semesters at the institution and appeared in either 90 percent of the current season's games or started in 66 percent of the season's contests.
MATT TORRELL (Rochester, NY/The Charles Finney School)
A midfielder, Torrell is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time at Calvin. He is a sports management major. He arrived at Calvin last January after transferring from Liberty University and earned a spot on the Calvin Dean's List during the 2025 spring semester. He has also made a big impact on the soccer pitch, amassing 38 points on the strength of 15 goals and eight assists. He was 3-for-3 on penalty kick opportunities and netted two game-winning goals. He was MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once this fall. He was later named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.
JAMES JACKSON (Cleves, Oh./ Saint Xavier)
Also a midfielder, Jackson is receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time. He is majoring in accounting and financial planning. He has been a two-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and a member of the 2024-25 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Jackson was a regular starter with the Knights this fall, netting one goal and two assists for four points.
Torrell and Jackson were part of a Calvin men's soccer team that finished 17-4-1 overall this fall. Under the direction of head coach
Ryan Souders, the Knights captured the 2025 MIAA Tournament crown and advanced to the second round of the NCAA III Tournament.
