2025 Division III Men's Soccer United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams
Four members of the Calvin men's soccer team have received United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region VIII accolades. Junior
Matt Torrell has been named to the All-Region VIII First Team. Sophomore
Jake Ziolo has been named to the All-Region VIII Second Team with junior
Zac Brooks named to the third team and freshman
Will Lanham to the fourth team. As a member of the All-Region VIII First Team, Torrell is now eligible for United Soccer Coaches All-America consideration.
MATT TORRELL (Rochester, NY/The Charles Finney School)
A midfielder, Torrell had a standout first year of competition with the Calvin men's soccer team. Torrell arrived at Calvin last January after transferring from Liberty University and proceeded to make an instant impact. Torrell scored 15 goals and netted eight assist for a total of 38 points to lead the Knights in scoring. He is currently ranked 18
th nationally in points, 26
th in goals and 46
th in assists. Torrell was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player this fall and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team. He was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once. He was a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kick tries and recorded a pair of game-winning goals.
JAKE ZIOLO (Dublin, Oh./Dublin Jerome)
An outside back on defense, Ziolo I receiving all-region honors for the first time. Ziolo proved to be a two-way threat, helping secure Calvin's flanks on defense while also recording three goals, five assists and 11 points. All three of his goals were game-winners with the goals coming against Alma, DePauw and Olivet. He was named to the All-MIAA First Team and was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week once.
ZAC BROOKS (Lone Tree, Colo./Valor Christian)
A midfielder, Brooks also made an immediate impact with the Calvin men's soccer team this fall after transferring over from Cedarville University. Books recorded six goals, five assists and 17 points to rank third on the Calvin team in scoring. He had two game-winning goals this fall including the winner in a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Grove City in the first round of the NCAA III Tournament. He also scored Calvin's goal in a 1-1 rivalry tie at Hope on October 7.
WILL LANHAM (Commerce Township, Mich./Notre Dame Prep)
A winger, Lanham is receiving all-region accolades for the first time. He made a big impact in his first year with the Knights scoring nine goals to rank second on the Calvin team in scoring with 18 points. He had three game-winning goals, scoring winners against Cornerstone, Olivet and Trine. He was later named to the All-MIAA Second Team and was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once.
Calvin's all-region honorees helped the Knights finish 17-4-1 overall. Under the direction of head coach
Ryan Souders, the Knights captured their fourth straight MIAA Tournament title and gain their 12
th NCAA III Tournament bid in the last 14 years.
