Calvin Women’s Volleyball Advances to MIAA Tournament Final with 3-0 Sweep of Albion

HOLLAND, Mich. – The 22nd-ranked Calvin University women's volleyball team defeated Albion College 3-0 by the scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18 in Friday night's MIAA Tournament semifinal at Hope College.
 
With the win, Calvin (24-3) advanced to the MIAA Tournament Final on Saturday, November 15, at top-seeded Hope.
 
Albion (24-5) started strong and held a 13-9 lead in the opening set, but Calvin roared back with an 8-1 run to take a 17-14 lead and never looked back on the way to winning the set 25-18. Sarah Bradley (Clarkston, Mich./Everest Collegiate) led the attack with five kills and added five digs while Delaney Kemp (Frisco, Texas/Frisco Centennial recorded eight assists and a service ace.
 
The Knights continued their momentum into the second set, building a six-point lead at 16-10 and then holding off a late Albion rally to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 overall lead in the match. Aerin Baker (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck) led Calvin with four kills in the set. Emma Ekblaw (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Madison Wiersema (Fremont, Mich./West Michigan Christian/Arkansas St.) each had two blocks in the set.
 
The Knights controlled the third set from the start, taking an early 6-1 lead and never allowing the Britons to get closer than two points the rest of the way as they finished off the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 third-set win. Baker and Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) each finished with four kills in the set to lead the charge.
 
Calvin hit .263 for the match with Baker leading the way with nine kills. Bradley added eight kills, while Schipper added seven.
 
Kemp led the Knights with 20 assists to go with nine digs. Ekblaw and Wiersema each finished with five blocks apiece.
 
NEXT UP: Calvin women's volleyball will return to action tomorrow when it plays at top-seed Hope College in the MIAA Tournament Final at 7:00 PM.
