The Calvin-Hope men's soccer rivalry is set to renew Tuesday night at Hope's Van Andel Stadium. Match time is 7 p.m.
The contest will be the first league match of the 2025 MIAA season for both teams. Gates to the stadium will open at 6 p.m. with tickets available at the ticket booth or in advance online at:

ABOUT THE SERIES – Wednesday is the 115
th meeting between the two teams in a series that sees Calvin leading 66-34-14. Calvin has scored 211 goals to Hope's 123 during that span. The Knights have won five of the last six meetings and are 19-1-4 against Hope over the last 24 meetings. Hope's last win over Calvin was in 2013, a 3-1 win at Hope. Hope's last win at Calvin was in 2010, a 2-1 win at Zuidema Field.
LAST YEAR – The teams met twice last fall with the teams battling to a 1-1 draw in the regular season meeting at Calvin Soccer Stadium. Calvin then won the return matchup 2-1 in the MIAA Tournament semifinals at Van Andel Stadium in November with freshman
Colin Nieuwenhuis scoring the game-winning goal in the 78
th minute of play.
ABOUT CALVIN – Calvin comes into the match with an 8-2-0 overall record. Calvin defeated Olivet 5-0 Saturday night. The Knights have featured a balanced scoring attack with 10 different individuals netting at least one goal this season. Junior
Matt Torrell leads Calvin in scoring with 11 goal contributions as he has eight goals, three assists and 19 points. Junior
Zac Brooks is next on the Calvin score sheet with eight points on the strength of two goals and four assists. Freshman
Will Lanham has four goals and eight points. Calvin's goalkeeping has been led by senior
Zac Moore. Moore has a 1.42 goals-against-average and 17 saves.
THE CALVIN COACH – Calvin is led by head men's soccer coachÂ
Ryan Souders who is in his 14
th season at the helm of the Knights. Souders is a 2007 graduate of Wheaton College. At Wheaton he was the starting goalkeeper on a Thunder side that reached the Division III National Championship final in 2006. He is 242-38-15. In 14 years at Calvin and he has led the Knights to 12 MIAA regular season championships. He led Calvin to the national championship final in 2016 and 2018 and to NCAA III Final Fours in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
ABOUT HOPE – Hope comes into the match with a 4-5-1 overall record. Hope is coming off a 3-2 defeat at Division I Notre Dame last Tuesday. Sophomore forward Jackson Mindling leads Hope in scoring with seven goals, two assists and 16 points. Junior Seth Walters is right behind with seven goals and 14 points. Josh Weigel has four goals, one assist and nine points. Hope has utilized three goalkeepers this fall. Cooper Hutt is 1-3-0 with 13 saves and a 1.55 goals-against-average. Jack McDaniel is 1-1 with seven saves and a 2.40 goals-against-average. Daniel Morgan is 2-1-1 with 11 saves and a 0.94 goals-against-average.
THE HOPE COACH – Hope is led by fourth-year head coach David Blahnik. He is 36-17-13 in four years as head coach. He previously served as head coach at Olivet Nazarene University, guiding the school to five NAIA national tournament appearances. He is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene where he was an all-conference soccer player, graduating in 2006.
