Calvin Volleyball Defeats Albion On The Road

ALBION, Mich. - Tonight the Calvin women's volleyball team traveled to take on the Brits of Albion where they picked up a 3-1 victory. After tonight, the Knights improved to a 21-3 overall record and a 5-1 MIAA record.

In the first set, despite trading early points, the Knights took a 5-4 and never looked back. Freshman Sarah Bradley (Clarkston, Mich./Everest Collegiate) and senior Madison Wiersema (Fremont, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) led the attack for Calvin with six kills apiece while junior Tryna Vander Zwaag (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian) notched nine digs. Senior Aerin Baker (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck) also hit a milestone when her two kills boosted her to one thousand career kills.

Calvin kept things rolling in the second set and took an early lead 8-3 over Albion. However, the Brits refused to quit as they fought back and late in the match the Knights held a slim 22-21 advantage. Looking to reclaim the momentum, back-to-back kills from Bradley and freshman Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) put the Knights back in the driver seat as they went on to win the win and go up 2-0 over Albion.

The Brits bounced back and won the third set before the Knights reclaimed momentum by winning the fourth set 25-16 and claiming the 3-1 victory.

Bradley finished the match with a team high 15 kills and three service aces while Baker and Wiersema each chipped in 11 kills. Vander Zwaag led the way with 28 digs while sophomore Delaney Kemp (Frisco, Tx./Frisco Centennial) finished with 24 assists.

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, November 5th when they welcome the Comet of Olivet to Van Noord Arena for a 6:30 PM match.
