ALMA, Mich. – Calvin got back on the winning track with a 2-0 conference victory at Alma Saturday afternoon. The Knights remain in third place in the MIAA regular season standings at 4-1-1 in conference play.
Calvin (12-3-1) scored both of its goals in the second half after the opening 45 minutes ended at 0-0.
The Knights got on the scoreboard in the 64
th minute as freshman Toby Simeone (Riverside, Australia/St. Patrick's College) got loose up the left wing against the run of play. Simeone was able to beat the defense through the left side and then cut to the right inside the 18-yard box to slip in a low accurate shot past the goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.
Just three minutes later, junior
Matt Torrell (Rochester, N.Y./The Charles Finney School ) scored his team-leading 13
th goal of the season, connecting off a pass from sophomore teammate
Jake Ziolo (Dublin, Oh./Dublin Jerome HS) for a 2-0 lead. Ziolo was able to cross in a pass from the left wing on the scoring play that Torrell was able to meet with a full-volley blast that tucked inside the near post.
Calvin held firm from that point to gain the shutout win.
The Knights held a 19-4 shots at goal advantage. Sophomore
John Hargett (Powell, Oh./Olentangy HS) went the distance in goal for the Knights to record his first collegiate shutout. Hargett was credited with one save.

Ryan Souders. "As expected, Alma made it difficult but a couple of really nice goals were able to see us through to the three points. Need another important three points on Wednesday in the regular season finale."
