The Calvin University men's volleyball program has finalized its coaching staff for the 2026 season under the direction of interim head coach Aaron Sagraves.
MacKenzi Vazquez joins the coaching staff as an assistant coach, while
Charlie Kraut and Vanessa Martinez will serve as volunteer assistant coaches.
Emily Farwell will also serve as the program's director of operations.
"I am ecstatic to have such a strong group of coaches to support, mentor and coach these young men," Sagraves said. "They bring a high level of coaching and experience with them and have already built some strong and intentional relationships with the team. We are excited to get to work even deeper as we step into the 2026 season and cannot wait to see what the Lord has planned for us!"
Vazquez joins the coaching staff as an assistant coach following a collegiate and professional career as a player. Originally from Bolingbrook, Illinois, Vazquez was a four-year starter at the University of Michigan from 2016-19 and earned Honorable Mention All-Big 10 honors as a freshman and First Team All-Big 10 honors as a senior. She followed her collegiate career by playing professionally in Puerto Rico (2020 and 2023) and Peru (2022) and also played for the Grand Rapids Rise in 2025.
As a coach, Vazquez served one season as a high school varsity head coach and has been an assistant coach at several collegiate institutions, coaching both men and women. She was also the director of operations and assistant coach for the Grand Rapids Rise. Her husband, Andrew Vazquez, is the special teams coordinator and running backs coach for the Calvin football team.
Kraut returns to the Calvin coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach for the Calvin men's volleyball program in each of the last two seasons. Prior to coming to Calvin for the inaugural season in 2024, Kraut had seven seasons of coaching experience.
Martinez joins the Calvin men's volleyball staff after a four-year career for the Calvin women's volleyball program from 2021-24. During her four seasons as a middle blocker, Martinez earned All-MIAA First Team honors in 2023, as well as Freshman of the Year in 2021 while helping the Knights to two MIAA regular season championships. She finished her playing career for the Knights with 481.0 total blocks, which ranks fifth in program history. She also has four years of coaching experience at the club level at Impact Dynamic Volleyball.
Farwell joins the staff with six years of coaching experience. After playing collegiately at Grand Rapids Community College and Hope College, Farwell coached as an assistant for two seasons at Messiah University and then spent four years at Grand Rapids Christian High School, the last three of which coming as a varsity assistant.
The Calvin men's volleyball team will open the 2026 season on January 23 against Maranatha Baptist University as part of a four-match stretch over two days in Wisconsin.
