The Calvin men's basketball team will swing back into action on Saturday when it hosts the Green Knights of St. Nobert in a non-conference game at Van Noord Arena. The game is set to tip at 5 p.m. (ET).

Saturday will mark the second-ever meeting between the two schools in men's basketball. A year ago, Calvin defeated St. Norbert 88-66 in DePere, Wisconsin.

Saturday's game will mark the final non-conference contest of the 2024-25 regular season schedule for the Calvin men's basketball team as it opens MIAA competition next Wednesday when it hosts Albion at 8 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.

Calvin enters the game with an overall record of 4-6 and a three-game win streak. St. Norbert comes in at 9-2.

Calvin was picked to finish second in the MIAA preseason coaches poll. St. Norbert was picked to finish second in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) preseason coaches poll.

As a team, Calvin averages 74.0 points a game on offense and 72.5 points a game on defense. St. Norbert averages 77.1 points a game on offense and 73.4 points a game on defense.

Calvin is led in scoring and rebounding by graduate student guard Uchenna Egekeze who averages 15.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. Egekeze was a preseason D3hoops.com All-America selection and was named MIAA Player of the Week this past Monday. Junior forward Owen Varnado is close behind averaging 14.9 points and a team-leading 6.9 rebounds a game. Junior guard Trevin Winkle contributes 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds a game. He is coming off a career-high 19-point game in an 84-61 win at Wilmington College December 21.

Bill Sall is in his sixth year as head coach of the Calvin men's basketball program. This is his third straight 20-win campaign at the helm of the Knights. A 1994 Calvin graduate, Sall is in his 19^th year as a head collegiate men's basketball coach with an overall career won-loss record of 333-295 heading into tonight. He was 177-148 in 11 seasons at Ferris State and 61-102 in six seasons at Northern Michigan. He is currently 95-40 at the helm of the Calvin men's basketball program. In his first year as Calvin men's basketball head coach, he led the Knights to an overall record of 15-11 including a second-place finish in the MIAA and a trip to the MIAA Tournament semifinals. He followed with a second straight trip to the MIAA Tournament semis in 2021. In 2023, he led Calvin to an MIAA regular season championship and an overall record of 23-5. In 2022, he guided Calvin to a 22-9 record, a berth in the NCAA III Tournament and a trip to the Sweet 16 round of the national tournament. Sall is also a legendary Calvin men's basketball player. A two-time NABC Division III All-American and a two-time MIAA MVP, Sall ranks second on the Calvin career scoring list with 2,003 points. As a senior during the 1989-90 season, he led Calvin to an outright MIAA title and the school's first trip to the NCAA III Final Four.

Fans of Calvin basketball should mark their calendar for each Monday night in February.    Next month, starting February 3, Big E's restaurant on East Beltline is the home for "Inside Calvin Basketball" – a 30-minute program featuring men's coach Bill Sall plus coaches and players from the men's and women's basketball teams.    The show airs live on 96.1 The Game and Michigan Sports Radio.  Fans are welcome to join the live audience and enjoy the delicious menu items from Big E's.

The Green Knights are under the leadership of head coach Gary Grzesk who is in his 18^th year at the helm of the St. Nobert program. He has amassed a won-loss record of 341-112 at the helm of the St. Norbert program, leading the Green Knights to 11 conference championships and eight appearances in the NCAA III Tournament. St. Norbert was 22-6 a year ago including 15-3 in the NACC.

Senior guard Jamison Nicolai leads St. Norbert in scoring and rebounding with averages of 15.1 points and 8.7 rebounds a game. Nicolai was an All-NACC First Team selection last season and the (2024) NACC Defensive Player of the Year. Senior forward Garrett Grzesk averages 12.9 points and 3.5 rebounds a game while 6-8 senior forward Brandt Wilson contributes 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds a game.

The game will feature a live video stream as well as live statistics and a local radio broadcast.
