The Calvin University men's swimming and diving team competed across the state of Michigan on Saturday in two different meets.

The Knights hosted Alma College and Albion College at Venema Aquatic Center in a triangular meet and defeated both teams, topping Alma 166-63 and Albion 159-78.

Calvin also competed at Wayne State University in a dual meet, with WSU coming out on top 112.5-90.5.

In the home event, the Knights started off the tri-meet with a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. The 'A' team of
Ted Turnage (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids),
Luke Foll (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian),
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Will Bales (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Everett) took first place in a time of 3:34.38.

The Knights also won the 200 Freestyle Relay to close the meet, as the 'A' team of
Jake Schotanus (Versaille, Ky./Woodford County),
Henry Phippen (Macomb, Ill./Phippen Academy),
Joshua Ring (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) and
Alex Ketrow (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) finished in a time of 1:31.23.

In the individual events, Calvin took home five first-place finishes, starting with Bales in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:47.77.

John Reeder (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) won the 400 Individual Medley in a time of 4:20.77, while Schotanus won the 200 Butterfly in 2:01.19.

Phippen won the 200 Backstroke in 2:06.48. Foll took first in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:15.21.

In the diving competitions,
Wil Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) took first off both the one-meter (316.05 points) and three-meter (287.25) boards.

Calvin scored wins in two relays and two individual events in the dual meet at Wayne State.

David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) won the 50 Freestyle in 20.68 to score the first of the top finishes.

The other came from
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect), who won the 100 Breaststroke in 58.56 just 0.03 faster than
Andrew Taulbee (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) in second place (58.59). Hays also finished second in the 100 Backstroke (51.64).

Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished in a tie for second in the 100 Freestyle in 46.55.
Logan Campbell (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) took second place in the 100 Butterfly in 51.77.

Calvin won both relay events at the meet, starting in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:31.85.

The Knights also won the 200 Freestyle Relay in 1:23.05.

NEXT UP: Calvin swimming and diving will take next weekend off from competition before returning to action on Friday, February 7, when it hosts Hope College in a dual meet scheduled to start at 5:00 PM at Venema Aquatic Center.
