SALEM, Ore. – Calvin evened its season record at 3-3-0 with a 1-0 victory at Willamette Saturday night. The victory closes out a weekend trip to the west coast for the Knights as they continue the non-conference portion of their schedule.
Senior
Alex White (Lake Bluff, Il./Lake Forest Academy) provided the only goal of the game, pouncing on a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and slotting home a shot just 4:58 into the match. The goal by White stood up as the lone score of the game.
Willamette (0-3-1) pressed the attack in the second half and had a handful of dangerous free kick opportunities in the attacking third but Calvin senior goalkeeper
Zac Moore (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown HS) stood tall on his line, making a handful of quality saves while commanding his box on crosses through the air. A fifth-year senior transfer, Moore was making his Calvin debut in Saturday's night win.
Calvin finished with an 18-13 shots at goal advantage including 12-5 in the first half.
COACHES COMMENT: "Huge win for us tonight," said Calvin head men's soccer coach
Ryan Souders. "We really had to grind this one out. Willamette is a really tough side that is very talented and well-coached. Glad to get the points out west before we make our way home tomorrow. Huge thanks to our Pacific Northwest alumi who made the trip to support!"
NEXT UP: Calvin will host Cornerstone next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Zuidema Field
