HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Calvin University men's volleyball team lost both games on Saturday at the Juniata Quad tournament hosted by Juniata.
Calvin (3-14) fell 3-1 to Nazareth (12-7) in the opener by the scores of 27-25, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-18, and then dropped the second match to eighth-ranked Juniata (15-4) 3-0 by the scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-18.
Match 1
Calvin battled in the opener but fell to the Golden Eagles of Nazareth in four to start the day.
The Knights scored six straight points late in the opening set to take a 22-20 lead, but the Golden Eagles came back to win the set 27-25.
Calvin roared back in the second set and finished strong to tie the match 1-1 with a 25-22 set-two win.
The Golden Eagles would prove too tough the rest of the way and took the third set 25-15 and the fourth 25-18 to secure the 3-1 overall win.
Brady Gudauskas (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) led Calvin with 11 kills, while
Gabriel Laughlin (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Michigan Aviation Academy) joined him in double figures with 10 kills.
Cameron Dogger (Holland, Mich./Zion Christian) led Calvin with 30 assists, while
Andrew Pigatti (Crown Point, Ind./Illiana Christian) finished with 10 digs.
Match 2
The eighth-ranked Eagles from Juniata finished the way by topping the Knights in three.
The Eagles put the pressure on the young Knights from the start, building an early lead in the first set and never looking back on the way to the sweep.
Dogger led the Knights in both kills (five) and assists (nine). Pigatti finished with a team-high six digs.
Nick Bultje (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian) finished with four blocks. At the conclusion of the tournament, Bultje was named to the all-tournament team.

Spencer Fredrick said. "It was a good opportunity for us to see some high level volleyball and see what to expect at this level."
