ORLANDO, Fla. - The Calvin University women's tennis team defeated Wittenberg University 6-3 in a battle of unbeaten teams on Tuesday.
The number-one doubles team for Calvin (7-0) ofÂ
Marina Ribeiro (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil) andÂ
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) started the scoring with an 8-5 win, while the number-three team of
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) and
Elise Norman (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) also won 8-5 to give the Knights a 2-1 overall lead heading into singles play.
In singles, Wittenberg (7-1) took the top two matches, but the Knights won the other four points thanks to straight sets wins by
Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central),
Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian),
Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) andÂ
Delanie Minnema (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe) to secure the 6-3 team win.
