Calvin Women's Lacrosse Falls to Occidental in Game Two of West Coast Trip

LOS ANGELES, Ca. – Calvin dropped to 2-3 on the young season with a 19-8 loss to Occidental College Monday evening. The loss evened Calvin's west coast record as the Knights had defeated Whittier College 19-4 on Saturday.

Calvin trailed 8-2 after one quarter of play and 15-4 at halftime before rallying for an even second half.

Calvin and Occidental had three goals apiece in the third quarter and traded single goals in the fourth to provide the final margin of victory.

The Knights met the host Tigers (1-2) on even terms in the opening minutes of the first quarter as the teams were tied 2-2 just over four minutes in. Sophomore Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) scored to tie the game 1-1 and sophomore Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) scored moments later to make it 2-2.

Occidental then ripped off nine unanswered goals to take control of the game, leading 11-2 early in the second quarter and continued on to lead 15-4 at halftime.

Booher sparked the Calvin offense with three goals and a pair of assists with two of her goals coming on free position attempts.

Junior Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) had a pair of goals and five draw controls.

Graduate student Lainey Aldridge (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) had two goals with Bethard adding one.

Freshman Margee Boelema (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) went the distance in goal for the Knights and made five saves.

COACHES COMMENT: "I'm happy with the energy the team brought today," said Calvin head women's lacrosse coach Blake Boehm. "Occidental is a good team that forces us into some situations we haven't seen yet this season. We got down early, but our -in-game adjustments and mental toughness helped us fight back. Tonight the scoreboard doesn't tell the full story. We're walking away a more experienced and confident team than when we arrived."

NEXT UP: Calvin will face Cal Lutheran on Friday at 5 p.m. (PCT) in a game that will be played at Occidental College.
