Calvin University sophomore center Jalen Overway was named to the top 25 watch list for the Bevo Francis Award on Friday. 

The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player with the finest overall season within Small College Basketball, which includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA institutions. Considerations include season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements. The presitgious award will only be given to one player with the Small College Basketball ranks per season.

Overway (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) previously was named to the top 100 and top 50 watch lists for the award earlier this season, and made it as far as the top 50 during his freshman year in the 2022-23 season. 

This marks another in a long list of awards for Overway this season. Earlier this week, he was named First Team All-America, First Team All-District 7 and District Player 7 of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He was also named First Team All-Region 7 and Region 7 Player of the Year by D3hoops.com. 

Prior to those accolades, Overway was named MIAA Most Valuable Player and All-MIAA First Team for the second consecutive season. 

The awards come following a season in which Overway averaged 19.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while leading Calvin to a share of its second consecutive MIAA regular season championship, as well as a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

During that tournament run, Overway scored 24 points in a win over number-17 Elmhurst, followed by a 20-point game in a win at number-two John Carroll. The following week, Overway scored 29 points and added 12 rebounds in a win over fourth-ranked Randolph-Macon in the sweet 16.

With Overway leading the charge, Calvin finished the 2023-24 season with a 25-5 record.
